My father had a cardiac arrest. Could ozone therapy help with his recovery or prevent another one?
The question, asked by a man aged 30 to 44
He survived a cardiac arrest recently, and we’re worried about what we can do to support his recovery and reduce future risks. I came across ozone therapy and wanted to know if it has any role in this situation or if it could be unsafe for someone with his history.
Recovering from cardiac arrest needs careful and specialised care. Usually, cardiac arrest happens due to a problem with the heart’s electrical rhythm. It is often linked to blocked arteries. It can also be heart muscle damage or simply an imbalance in the electrolytes. Now, preventing another cardiac arrest depends on treating the cause.
Ozone therapy in this case and at this time is not a treatment for recovery or preventing another cardiac arrest. It most definitely is not recommended without any clearance from the cardiologist because:
Most of the patients after a cardiac arrest are put on blood thinners, and so this can increase the risk of bleeding.
Any V procedure can add stress to the body during the recovery phase.
There is no strong proof that ozone therapy can prevent another cardiac event.
As of now, the most important steps are to follow the cardiologist’s treatment plan, cardiac rehabilitation, giving him the medicines on time, and simple lifestyle changes.
Suggested Tests
These are led by his cardiologist:
- Echocardiogram
- Coronary angiography
- Cardiac MRI
- 24-hour Holter monitoring
- Serum potassium, magnesium and calcium
- Lipid profile with ApoB and lipoprotein(a)
- HbA1c
- Kidney function tests
- TSH
Before any additional therapy is considered:
- Coagulation profile
- G6PD test
- A full review of current heart medications with the cardiologist
