I’m in Bangalore and considering Mounjaro for weight loss. Can I consult a doctor online, get the necessary tests done, and get a prescription if I’m found suitable, or do I need to visit a clinic in person?
The question, asked by a man aged 30 to 44
I’ve been considering Mounjaro because I’ve struggled to lose weight despite making changes to my diet and exercise routine. I’m interested in understanding the process before deciding whether it’s right for me. I’d prefer an online consultation if possible, but I want to make sure the assessment is thorough and that any necessary blood tests or other evaluations are done before starting. I’d also like to know how follow-ups and monitoring work if treatment is started.
If diet and exercise stop working, it is not just about effort. Sometimes a biological reason can be what is pushing it back. Your appetite hormones are working against you. Now, some people naturally produce less of the GLP-1 fullness hormone. On top of this, add dieting; it lowers it more. You feel hungry, cravings are loud and sticking to a plan is not possible. This is the main problem that Mounjaro solves. When your body cells stop responding to insulin, your body stays in fat storage mode, especially around the belly. This can happen even when your sugar levels look normal. Hormonal imbalance, thyroid function, gut health or chronic inflammation can also be some hidden causes making your weight loss harder. But Mounjaro doesn’t fix these. Hence, we recommend a thorough assessment. So if your weight is driven by appetite and insulin resistance, Mounjaro will work for you and, in fact, very well. But if there is some other reason, it may not work for you. Hence, the root cause needs to be identified and treated. A thorough evaluation, even online, tells you what could be the leading cause. Suggested tests
Suggested Tests
Before starting, all of these can be done through a home blood draw: HbA1c and fasting insulin Serum creatinine and eGFR SGOT, SGPT and GGT Serum lipase Triglycerides and HDL cholesterol Free T4 and TSH During treatment, usually repeated at regular reviews: HbA1c and kidney function, particularly after dose changes Vitamin B12 and ferritin, as reduced appetite can lower intake over time Weight, waist and blood pressure, tracked at each follow-up
How Clinic Living Plus Can Help
At Clinic Living Plus, each of our doctors’ consultations lasts 60- 90 minutes. This time helps the doctor
Understand your relationship with food and body image. Assess if GLP-1s are actually right for you. Set realistic expectations, so you know what to expect with medication. Discuss the side effects both short- and long-term in depth.
Diagnostic testing before any prescription. We don’t suggest or prescribe any medication without diagnostic testing, especially weight loss medicines. Testing shows if the medication is safe and right for you. You get the whole team, not a prescription. A team of a nutrition coach to help you build safe eating habits that work beyond medication, a physiotherapist to protect your muscle and bone density, and a psychologist to help you build a healthy relationship with food. Apart from this, we also send our chef who can visit your home and train the cook, if required. At CLP, weight loss is not a single-track approach that is built around the medicine. It is a holistic programme.
Lifestyle & Nutrition Tips
Keep track of meals, appetite, your energy or any other side effects. It can help your doctor during follow-up, and the plan can be adjusted accordingly. Consume smaller portions even if you are not hungry or your appetite is low. Ensure you include iron-rich foods like spinach, rajma, and ragi, and pair them with vitamin C-rich foods. Cut down on alcohol, as during treatment it can worsen the situation and may lead to nausea.
