I am done with all the dieting trends. I recently came across the word Mounjaro and saw some celebrities take it for weight loss. I am thinking of taking it. Is it safe? Is there any particular test that I should do? Which doctor can give this injection?

Now, if you are jumping from one diet trend to another without any lasting results. It’s not your willpower. It’s because three things are working against you.

Some people are always thinking about food, the next meal, cravings, fighting the urge to snack. So every diet battle is just saying no, and the willpower eventually runs out, and hence the weight is back. So when you follow a diet, your body lowers the hormones that are responsible for keeping you feeling full, like GLP-1 does. This, in fact, leads to a body that is constantly hungry. It is a survival instinct, not a lack of discipline. The yo-yo diets actually lead to muscle loss over time, so when the weight comes back, it comes with fat. Over time, the metabolism slows, and hence every new diet will work less.

Hence, medications like Mounjaro have received so much attention. These work on the appetite hormones directly. They quiet the noise around food. But it is important to understand these medications work as part of a medical plan, not a complete shortcut.

Suggested Tests

Kidney function tests, including creatinine and eGFR Serum amylase and lipase, as a baseline for pancreatic health Fasting glucose and HbA1c Liver function tests Lipid profile TSH, with a thyroid ultrasound for anyone with a personal or family history of thyroid nodules or thyroid cancer Abdominal ultrasound for anyone with a history of gallstones Pregnancy test for women of childbearing age A review of current medications, including any for diabetes, which may need adjusting once treatment starts

If you have been dieting for years and following every diet trend, Mounjaro can genuinely help. It will quiet the whole food noise about food and cravings that come with it.

Now, is it safe? It really comes down to the right person, under a doctor’s supervision. The reason why prescription medicine is not something you start on your own is that a celebrity used it and got the results. There are some common side effects even with the best medication, like nausea, bloating and constipation, especially early on. Losing weight without adequate protein will make you lose muscle as well. So a doctor’s supervision and consultation become extremely important.

What kind of tests do we need? In our diagnostic testing, we look out for’ Pancreatic enzymes, liver and kidney function, blood sugar. Any family history of medullary thyroid cancer, which rules out people who aren’t suitable for this drug. The procedure to get you off the medication, a treatment where how and when to start the dose and how it ends is considered. Which doctor can prescribe it? Now only a qualified medical doctor is eligible to prescribe it, especially someone who is experienced in metabolic health and weight management.

Lifestyle & Nutrition Tips

Make sure your diet includes enough protein sources, as during such treatments the appetite can drop, leading to muscle loss. Hence, protein becomes extremely important. Try consuming small portions slowly and avoid extra fatty and oily foods, as these can trigger nausea and digestive discomfort. Keep yourself well hydrated and increase fiber in your diet gradually, as both can help with constipation, in case you face this during treatment. Start with strength training and, if possible, do it along with it to build muscle.
